I've actually worked on this exact same project, trying such New England staples as Five Guys, Plan B, Red Robin and the Counter Burger. Against the odds, my favorite might be Red Robin's A1 Peppercorn burger.

My newest mission is finding the best sushi place in the Hartford area. My friend Catie and I use a rubric that judges the sushi specifically on the quality of their spicy tuna roll (a staple at most places) as well as what we perceive to be their most inventive/outrageous roll (so perhaps you should have both a plain cheeseburger and something with all the fixins). We also score the restaurant generally on things like value, atmosphere and whimsy. I've found that all of these things need to be considered to measure the experience comprehensively. It's something you might want to look into as your research continues.

Loved your descriptions and it made me want to do the same some day... and, I will. You and Megan are always welcome to visit me in Kentucky and do the bourbon trail to taste some fine whiskey. You won't have to stay in a hotel. Lucy and I have two extra bedrooms and I make a mean shrimp & grits or barbecued shrimp or my special pasta sauce (almost as good as Italy).
Keep writing and also enjoyed the photography as well. My best to your mom and dad.

Thanks for the comment. Our visit to Goosecross Winery was certainly one of the highlights of our trip. We bought several bottles and highly recommended Goosecross for others visiting Napa. Excellent wines and extremely friendly people.

We're so happy you chose to visit with us at Goosecross! I will make sure that Matt reads your post along with the wonderful things you said about his service. You'll make our "affable Texan" blush for sure! We hope you'll choose to visit with us again the next time you're in the area... and maybe I'll have the opportunity to meet you both as well.

Cheers!

Jon, having a cat has been much better than I would have imagined and has been tremendously entertaining so far. Our cat is a male and we got him neutered a couple of weeks ago. It took Captain a few days to adapt to wearing a cone. Even after a week he was still top-heavy and struggling not to bump into walls. Our kitten is anything but stoic, more like manic with occassional stretches of laziness.

"...a sure-footed, stoic cat that would sit still like a Buddha..."

This description epitomizes my cat "Smudge." I adopted him from the veterinary hospital I used to work at. He is a neutered male cat and is approx 15 yrs old (regardless of the sex, get your cat fixed: it mellows them out tremendously).

Congrats on the acquisition of the cat. The Egyptians (one of the most intelligent and interesting cultures to have ever existed) understood the importance of and placed such a huge emphasis on the Cat. Is your cat a male or female? Just remember: cats are much easier to take care of than dogs.

The cat hair hasn't been too bad. I don't think this breed sheds very much and we've taken him to the groomer a couple of times, so that may have helped. Megan vacuums really often as well and we do have one of those sticky rollers to take hair off clothes. Really, the biggest issue with hair has been that our cat has so much of it and he tends to have cling-on's.
