The phrase “audentes fortuna iuvat” was penned by Virgil in his epic, the Aeneid. Translated as “fortune favors the brave/bold” or “fortune favors he who dares,” the motto seemed fitting for our adventure, and inspired the name of our vessel.

Aaron Cook is sailing aboard Audentes, a 40-foot 1979 Valiant. Since purchasing Audentes four years ago, the author has traveled the ICW from Ft. Pierce, Florida to his home port of Onset, Massachusetts. After spending the summer of 2004 in Cape Cod, the author sailed with his brother, Brian, to Bermuda and on to Antigua before spending a year cruising throughout the Eastern Caribbean. In March 2005, Brian returned to the U.S. and Aaron continued cruising westward across the Southern Caribbean. After transiting the Panama Canal in February 2006, Aaron has sailed throughout the South Pacific including the Galapagos, French Polynesia, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Zealand.
